Peter J. Hotez, M.D., Ph.D.

Peter J. Hotez, M.D., Ph.D. is Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics and Molecular Virology & Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine where he is also the Co-director of the Texas Children’s Center for Vaccine Development (CVD) and Texas Children’s Hospital Endowed Chair of Tropical Pediatrics.  He is also University Professor at Baylor University, Fellow in Disease and Poverty at the James A Baker III Institute for Public Policy,  Senior Fellow at the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs at Texas A&M University, Faculty Fellow with the Hagler Institute for Advanced Studies at Texas A&M University, and Health Policy Scholar in the Baylor Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy.

DEI Panel: This panel will feature a moderated discussion on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the physician-scientist training pathway and career. This panel features three physician-scientist panelists, Dr. Erika Greene, Dr. Constance Mobley, and Dr. Carolyn Cannon 

PSTP Panel: The Physician Scientist Training Program (PSTP) panel will feature administration and residents from Baylor Pediatrician-Scientist Program and Baylor MeRIT Internal Medicine Residency Track. 

Round Table Panels: Students will be grouped in tables of approximately eight students with one or two faculty to talk to for about 25 minutes. This will be about 3 rotations for this session. Our Panelists

Ericka P. Greene (Simpson), M.D.

Dr. Ericka Greene (Simpson) is the Sumner Family Chair in Neuromuscular Research, Director of the Neuromuscular Clinic, and Director of the Neurology Residency  Program. She has clinical interests that include a wide range of neuromuscular disorders such as muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, neuropathy, ALS, inflammatory myopathy, and mitochondrial and metabolic myopathy. Her translational research seeks to identify and develop effective therapies that positively alter the natural progression of these diseases, including myotonic dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, and chronic inflammatory polyneuropathies. Dr. Greene has been a researcher in many clinical trials, author of over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and recipient of teaching awards. 

Parking Instructions

  • Parking is at the InterContinental lot (adjacent to the Latitude Medical Center complex, 6750 Main Street , Houston, TX 77030).  

  • Proceed up the ramp and go straight - obtain a parking ticket and bring it with you. We will provide you with a printed parking voucher at check-in, which will validate all parking expenses.

  • The EnMed building is a short walk away via Main St.

  • Enter through the Main St. entrance of the EnMed Building (the entrance on Holcombe Blvd will be closed.)

The 2023 South Regional APSA conference at Texas A&M School of Medicine will bring together students, trainees and faculty across various stages of the physician-scientist training pathway. It will provide a platform to network among different institutions, to promote diverse physician-scientist training, and to discover the multitude of career opportunities post-training.
